Odd question I know - just curious - but can't say why ;)

What might happen to the Sybase ASA database (under EMM) - if a hot catalog full backup were never to be run ?

i.e. what might happen if the NBDB transaction log were to never be truncated ?

Is there a maximum size, or maximum number of fragments, to the NBDB.log transaction log before Sybase chokes ?

This may be documented somewhere so let me apologize if it is, I may not have entered the right magical phrase into the google machine to get the right results.

My environment is made up of 3 Netbackup servers (7.5.0.6); 1 Linux master/media server, 1 Windows media server and 1 Linux media server. The only host with SAN access to the vm datastore is the Windows media server and is specified in the master server properties --> VMWare Access Host section. On the policy for the vm backups I have selected to use SAN and to use this windows media server but with all of these properties set it will still try to use the other 2 media servers if this one is busy. The resulting error when attempts are made from the wrong media server is status 59. Is there a way to keep this from happening?

I did find this note in the Symantec Netbackup for VMWare Administrators Guide - Page 52 but wasn't sure if it was my problem.

Backup is going through Media Server Only Through backup NIC  and client also have backup ip.

Is there a need to add client backup name --- backup ip  in /etc/hosts file of client . In client host File only client production ip is added with production name

Dear Experts,

How can I get to know media inventory report. 

1. Master server : netbackup 7.1.0.3 OS solaris
2. Media server ; netbackup7.1.0.3 OS solaris 

Suppose, I ejected some media from netbackup GUI and forgot to list the same, then i inserted some media in Library and started inventory. Now how can i get the list of that ejected media after inventory. is there is any report in EMM?

I've read some of the other posts about changing the Master Server domain name, but I did not come across an example where it is possible. Marianne has been very clear about using shortname for Master Servers and aliasing FQDN, but the server in question was a part of an acquisition and its creation was out of my hands. I've used Symantec's Professional Services to merge Backup Domains in the past, with positive results, but in this case we cannot justify the expense.

• Restore the catalog 

Does this seem achievable? 

3. If this is all incorrect, would someone please share an `nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose` output where domain migration is possible?

My Netbackup LAB environment is running with 7.1.0.2  in VCS cluster. Somehow /usr/openv got delete from NodeA. I am able to up the Netbackup on NodeB. In cluster configuration it is showing with error state.

After offline nbu_group , I tried to reinstall Netbackup on NodeA but it is not recognizing cluster and installing as standalone Netbackup Server. Currently I have removed SYMC* package from NodeA.

We have a netbackup media server that runs on UNIX amongst other 4 media servers that run on widnows server 2008R2. Net backup runs on 7.5.0.6.

The master server also runs on windows. We are looking at getting the UNIX media server to be decommed and then install windows on it as we don’t have the UNIX skills required to support it.

What would be the steps to decommission the UNIX media server properly in the netbackup environment and then provision it on Windows? The server will still have the same FQDN when it will run Windows server 2008.

I am aware of the process to provision a new media server on windows, but not aware of how to decom a media server from a netbackup perspective, and need to be aware of any gotchas as when i will be provisioning the media server again it will have the same host name.

the NBU environment was turned over (more like dropped on my lap) so i'm still learning the ropes.

i don't know how to answer you but i do know right after a disk backup, it gets dedup to tapes. i also know that images stay for at least a week on disk before expiring.

what i'm after is, if the images expire after a week, what's taking up space in my "disk pools"? isn't it that when a policy mentions expire after a year, that refers to the backup on tape? and not on disk?

System has crashed, it was a vm on hyper V 2012 r2.
we created a new vm with same name and config and ip. restored full C drive & then used w2koption.
and restored system states. and reused w2koption and stopped legacy client service. and rebooted machine.
restore completed sucessfully with status 0. logs attached.
how ever machine is not starting ..
kindly  suggest.

My Netbackup Dedupe pool is running at 90% capacity .. I need to produce a report for my IT manager on whats in there or taking up the space before we add more storage

I think I know the answer but is anyone aware of a fix for image cleanup creep? Mine now run at 1am and 1300 ish. Hopelessly out of sync for when folks need to go and manage media: all the tape work is done 10am (when the backups have completed), but the image cleanup has crept to 3hrs later.

Mighty inconvenient. I believe the answer is no. Which means its an enhancement request.

In my environment, we have a single node cluster running with vcs 6.0.3 and netbackup 7.5.0.6 on RHEL 6.4.

Now we need to add a 2nd node to the cluster, and upgrade the vcs to 6.1. Plan shared by Linux team is:

Install OS on 2nd node

Install VCS 6.1 on 2nd node

Zone the san disk which has NBU vol and database

Install NBU on 2nd node and manuall failover the netbackup on the 2nd node, by making 1st node down.

if successful, then we will join the 2nd node in cluster for automatic failover.

Is this approach correct? if so, please let me know, steps to install NBU on 2nd node and how it will judge that it is a part of cluster, how about adding to resource groups. As the failover will be tested first and then the node will be added to cluster (as told by linux team, i dont knowm how it is possible)

When I am trying to change the schedule I can only change the schedule for weekly.

I'm trying to backup the SharePoint 2013 with Netbackup 7.5.0.6.

SharePoint Server use Windows 2012 Standard.

Database Server use Windows 2008 R2 sp1 with MSSQL 2012 Enterprise

I give a Domain account System Admin role and local Admin role on Database Server, and Farm Admin and local Admin on SharePoint Server.

I also give these permissions "Replace a process level token", "Debug Programs", "logon as a service" and "allow log on locally" on both Servers.

And changed NetBackup Client Service Account, legacy Client Service and Legacy Network Service to this Domain account on both Servers.

this account has been also inputed into the Windows Client - SharePoint section.

On both Servers I turned off the firewall.

I unchecked the "Enable Granular Recovery" box.

But when I ran this, I also met this problem:

My policy of backup for DC is very simple

dc1, dc2 , already full backup with granalarity activated

backup are worked fine with no error no warning

on my DC , client is 7.6.0.2, nfs client activated, Microsoft patch ok

All prerequisite og admin gui vol1 For windows are set up

when i want restore an user account, my job come incomplete with this log:

Hello,

I have a Windows 2008 server with a 5TB disk that contains 1.733.974 files.  I had backup configured as a normal physical backup, but it took that much time that I changed it to flash backup Window just for this disk.

Server has backup selection configured with the disk like this:  \\.\E:

When launching the backup I received a 20 error: (20) invalid command parameter, and the log shows the following;

[I have tried all snapshot methods and I received always the same error]

I know there is san media server and san client feature avialable.

For san client linux media server is required. What if my media server in on windows. Then I think I would not be able to use san client.

But is there any way for windows media server for san backup of client leaving san media server option.
