If a hot catalog full backup is never run, what might happen?

NBU 7.5.0.2 (actually appliance v2.5.3 - psoted here because it's not really an appliance specific question...)

Odd question I know - just curious - but can't say why ;)

What might happen to the Sybase ASA database (under EMM) - if a hot catalog full backup were never to be run ?

i.e. what might happen if the NBDB transaction log were to never be truncated ?

Is there a maximum size, or maximum number of fragments, to the NBDB.log transaction log before Sybase chokes ?
